Join us for Family Day in the Neighborhood to celebrating bringing Fred Rogers home.

On Saturday, June 11, 2016 beginning at 11:30am, we invite you to join us for Family Day in the Neighborhood and promptly at 1:43pm the dedication of the Fred Rogers historical marker and unveiling of the bronze statue of Fred Rogers in James H. Rogers Park.

All are welcome to attend this wonderful day in the neighborhood.  Some of the activities include Trolley rides, face painting, balloon making, outside story time by Adams Memorial Library, puppet shows by the Cabaret Theatre, the Grand Opening of the Puzzle Art Exhibit will on display, music from the WCCC Jazz Band under the direction of Dr. Roderick Booker and various food vendors. 

Also, immediately following the dedication ceremony, Daniel Tiger will arrive at James H. Rogers Park with the Neighborhood Trolley.

This is definitely one special day in the neighborhood you do not want to miss!!

Timeline of Events

11:30am – 5:00pm
Food Vendors – Along Main Street
Various Food Vendors will be lined up along Main Street for you to enjoy§   

Happy Camper Cakes – Westmoreland’s ONLY Mobile Cupcake Camper will be creating “Sweetest Kind of Make Believe” themed gourmet cupcakes!

Latrobe Dairy Queen – Come visit Dairy Queen Dean and cool off with some Make Believe Ice Cream.

§  Opening Day for the Neighborhood Puzzle Art Project – Inside Latrobe Art Center

Mr. Tim Kelly, creator of the Puzzle Art Project will return to the neighborhood to help put the final pieces together!   Over 2,000 pieces will be on display, so we encourage you to come find YOUR piece of the puzzle!

 The Tent on Ligonier Street

§  Under the tent you will find a table filled with art supplies and blank puzzle pieces.  Feel free to create your own puzzle piece the day of the event. 

§  Mister Fred Rogers Memorabilia – Sponsored by Fred Rogers Center

A few precious pieces of Mister Rogers will be on display for you to look and remember how truly special and unique YOU are! 

§  Historical Society will show a half hour presentation of the history of Latrobe plus have Fred Rogers photographs on display.

Every Hour on the hour §  12pm; 1pm; 2pm; 3pm; 4pm

§  Face Painters, Balloon Makers, Clowns, Stilt Walkers, & Jugglers will spend the day in the neighborhood all day.  Sponsored by the Greater Latrobe GLSD Park and Recreation.

A Bouncy House and inflatable obstacle course for the children to try will be available ALL DAY.

It’s a Puppet Show!! – Sponsored by the Cabaret Theatre            Location: Cabaret Theatre along Main Street

o   Nothing is more creative for kids than kids creating for kids.  Come see the Cabaret Kids perform.  Every hour on the hour, the Cabaret Theatre will perform.

Bookmobile & Storytime – Sponsored by Adams Memorial Library
Location:  Alley between Main St. & Weldon St.
o   Adams Memorial Library will be doing storytimes throughout the day.  The Bookmobile will be parked all day where people can sign up for library cards, check out books and find out all about what the library has to offer.  Storytime will take place every half hour. 

Daniel Tiger Airbrush Tattoo Booth Sponsored by EWCTC

o   EWCTC will be airbrushing Daniel Tiger related tattoos. Stop by to pick up a drawstring backpack as well while supplies last

o   Location: Ligonier Street right in front of the Latrobe Art Center Annex

§  2:00 – 5:00pm

Trolley Rides
o   Take a trolley ride through Mister Rogers Neighborhood.  Ride past the house Mister Rogers used to live. . .it’s going to be a good day in the neighborhood!

§  Location:  Corner Parking Lot – Main St. and Jefferson St. – across from Rogers Park

Daniel Tiger is in the Neighborhood!

o   Daniel Tiger will arrive on the Neighborhood Trolley and will be located in Rogers Park for photographs and fun!


§  1:30pm – Countdown to 1:43pm – Location: Rogers Park

Join the Cabaret Theatre, Miss Gabi & Mr. Tim as they countdown the minutes to the unveiling of the Bronze Statue of Mister Rogers and the unveiling of the historical Marker

§  1:43pm – Unveiling of Bronze Statue / Dedication of the Marker

Promptly at 1:43pm we officially WELCOME Mister Fred Rogers back home to the Neighborhood.  Mrs. Joanne Rogers and Mrs. Laney Rogers Crozier will be there to unveil the bronze statue.  Sponsored by the McFeely Rogers Foundation.

Dedication of the historical marker will immediately follow.  Sponsored by the GLSD Chamber of Commerce.

Latrobe-GLSD Parks and Recreation will have the Rogers McFeely Memorial Pool open FREE to the public on Saturday, June 11th and Sunday June 12th. 12pm – 7pm

Countdown to the Unveiling will begin at 1:30pm.  All activities will resume at 2pm.
