Achieving Textures with Watercolors and Painting on Alternative Surfaces with Sue Archer

Join nationally renowned artist Sue Archer for a workshop on achieving textures with watercolors and painting on alternative surfaces. Emphasis will be placed on color theory and design while incorporating texture into your own work if you so desire. Those students who do not want to work on textures but wish to receive help with color and design on their own paintings, are also welcome.

Landscape elements and portraying light will be addressed this year. You will be working from your own reference photos or photos taken around Latrobe Art Center.

Textural items to be presented:

  1. Underpaintings and textural effects on watercolor paper

    • Flat washes; wet into wet washes

    • Leaving white shapes

    • Imprinting

  2. Painting on:

    • Aquabord

    • Yupo

    • Paper treated with ½ and ½ acrylic matte or gel medium

    • Paper treated with 1/3 of each: water, acrylic matte medium, gesso

    • Paper treated with ½ gesso and ½ water

    • Gesso on any surface

  3. Using ½ and ½ acrylic matte or gel medium mix at any time during the layering process and as a masking agent.

Cancellation Policy

At least 3 weeks prior to the start date of the workshop a full refund will be made less a $50.00 processing fee OR a full refund amount credit can be applied to another workshop/art class. All requests for refunds must be made in writing to info@latrobeartcenter.org Credit is nontransferable and may only be applied toward workshops/art classes.

Cancellations made less than 3 weeks prior the start date of the workshop are not eligible for a refund. However, a full credit may be applied toward a future workshop/art class. Credit is nontransferable and may only be applied toward workshops/art classes.
